Tips to consider when you are planning to install tile?

The size of the tile should be a major consideration when you install tile in your household. Larger tiles will cover more surface area, but smaller tiles allow for more intricate designs. COF ratings associate with the slipperiness of the surface, the higher the rating (0.6 and up), the safer and more slip resistant your floor will be.  Moisture absorption after installation is pivotal information to consider, in order to maintaining your tile flooring. Here is a list of rating for tiles that will better explain for the best application of each of the various tiles.

  • Non-Vitreous tiles – Absorb 7% of the available moisture content, and are best suited for indoor use as they absorb the least amount of water.
  • Semi Vitreous tiles – Absorb 3-7% of moisture content, and should still only be considered for indoor use.
  • Vitreous tiles – Absorbs 0.5-3% of the available moisture content, but very susceptible to freezing temperatures.
  • Impervious tiles – Absorbs 0.5% of the available moisture content, making them best suited for outdoor and colder climates.
